songs of the south devon coast
Have you been to the South Devon coast, especially from Bolt Tail to Bolt Head - the treacherous 5 miles of cliff between Hope Cove and the entrance to Salcombe harbour. To me, it is magical.
Originally, this CD was a cassette tape, and it came with a printed A5 booklet.

how this recording came about
Songs of the South Devon Coast was a project I championed, back in 1983(?). After living in South Devon for a few years, sitting with traditional players and exploring its history, it became apparent that there was a collection of songs and tunes from, or about the area. Most of them had interesting stories attached to them. So, I set about bringing them together, and Songs of the South Devon Coast was born.
I was at the time playing in Rumpus (Lisa Sture, Nigel Sture & Trish Georgi) who you can hear in the recordings.
There were so many interesting backstories, from shipwrecks and swashbuckling, to being half-cut at closing, so I decided it needed a booklet with the lyrics and the stories in to go with it, to bring them alive. I was pleased when a long-time member of the band who had recently left, Alan Boyce, agreed to write the stories up. He had been headmaster of the local school, so an obvious choice! I found a graphic designer, who also arranged printing. And so, the project was complete. A cameo of a part of Devon back in time - and a tribute to Pop Hingston, Les Rice, (Herzogin photographer), and Alan Boyce, all of whom enriched my life!
